“Do you like music? No music, no life? No time to listen to music but you have the time to wear a watch on your wrist?  YES, THE WAIT IS OVER!” said Yu Ando, Founder/Designer at AndoAndoAndo.

The Dial

Of this Vinyl Record Player Automatic Watch , the first part that came into reality was the dials. The Vinyl Record dial was designed and made in 2023, when a Finnish DJ friend and Yu Ando was talking about music and watch modding. This dial was very popular among watch modding communities, but watch enthusiasts also wanted to have a watch with this dial in it.

The Case

The case of the Vinyl Record Player Automatic Watch was developed between 2023 to 2024. Having bothered by the most popular but thick NH3X movements, Yu Ando decided to use the Miyota 9039 Premium Automatic movement for this watch.

The case was inspired by legendary (Panasonic) Technics SL-1200 turntable, which is well known among music fans, as well as among DJs. The big crown especially, was the homage to the turntable’s iconic knob.

The Hands

During the development of this watch, Yu Ando noticed that there are many vinyl record player -themed wristwatches in the market (most of which were more or less a toy-fashion watch). And Yu Ando wasn’t satisfied with most of them, because they didn’t utilized the elements of the vinyl record player.

(image above is of prototype hands, and the printed detail differs from the final version)

This watch’s hand was designed so that there is the hour disk, the minute “tonearm” arm, and the second disk. This way, the user can check the time, while giving the impression that the whole disk is turning, while utilizing the tonearm as a functional element, instead of stational decoration.

Yu Ando explains: So on above picture, it's showing about 12:37 (although realistically, the hour hand should be leaning slightly to the right).

  • Hour: The record label with the "A" logo is the hour hand-disk. Indicating the hour with the tip of the "A".
  • Minute: The "arm" (tonearm) of the vinyl record player is the minute hand. Yes it's not straight, it's not pointing the minute marker straight, but so you can interpret it in your own way (ie. the center of the head is pointing the minute, or the outermost edge of the head is pointing the minute.
  • Second: The disc in the center is the center hand-disc. You can interpret in various ways, ie. when the texts on the disc is level is the 0 seconds.
